Our Volunteers

All of our volunteer tax preparers have been certified in tax law by the IRS. Our volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds, but all share a common desire to use their time and talents to give back to their community.

How to get involved

There are several different roles that our volunteers take on throughout the tax season. Some of our volunteers are greeters and intake coordinators, others are tax preparers, and others yet are quality reviewers.

Free volunteer classroom training courses are available in January of each year, and online training is available throughout the tax season.

Volunteer Information

Volunteer Training Information for the 2025 Tax Season

Volunteer training has been scheduled for the 2025 tax season. New volunteers can select between two training groups. The schedules are as follows:

Group 1

Wednesday January 14, 2025, 5:30-9pm
Wednesday January 21, 2025, 5:30-9pm

Group 2

Thursday January 15, 2025, 5:30-9pm
Thursday January 22, 2025, 5:30-9pm

Returning volunteers may attend a refresher course on Saturday January 17, from 9am - 12pm.

All training courses will take place at Heartland Community College in the Workforce Development Center (WDC) building. If you are interested in attending one of the classes, please RSVP to info@bnfreetaxservices.org. All training classes are free for volunteers.

Exam Reminders

Printed 4012 and text booklets are available. Returning volunteers can reach out to Betty or email info@bnfreetaxservices.org to obtain a copy.
